For my
third research object I choose an illustration by Kelly Smith. She is an
Australian illustrator with a major in both graphic design and photography. In
her work she uses a combination of both pencils and watercolour. Most of her work
is fashion related and she has done illustrations for Australian Vogue, Net-A-Porter and recently
published a book called Sticker
Fashionista.
The illustration
I chose includes a pencil drawing and colouring with watercolour. I love the
way she makes the people in her drawings look real, almost like a black and
white photo. The really inspiring bit about her work is the way she colours her
drawing with watercolour. I also find her feminine style and great combination
of colour highly creative and inspiring. Even though she only colour some parts of the
illustration, the end result is amazing. The grey pencil work and the light
colours blend so well together. I like the way she mixes two different
materials in one illustration. Since the day I came across her work, she has
really been an inspiration to me and I think she will became an even greater
inspiration in the future.
